The Grasmere Hotel is a delightful small Victorian Country House Hotel and Restaurant set in the heart of the English Lake District and on the edge of Grasmere Village in an acre of informal gardens through which the River Rothay flows. The hotel retains the character of an English country house while providing modern standards of comfort and a warm friendly atmosphere that has encouraged many guests to return again and again. Each bedroom at the Grasmere is named after one of the many great writers and poets who have been inspired by the beauty and grandeur of the Lake DistrictĘs landscape. Just as each writer has his own particular style, so each room is individual in style, size, decor and furnishings. Some feature the unashamed luxury of a four poster bed, or pamper the guest with velvet coronets and drapes over the bed. All rooms are en suite private bathrooms, and all have central heating and direct dial telephone. Complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries and magazines are all provided as standard. Some bathrooms include a bath, separate shower and WC; others have a shower and WC only. Two of the bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, for the convenience of guests for whom stairs are a problem.

The Lounge Bar sweeps around the Reception with is new comfy settees and armchairs and plenty of reading matter to hand. The conservatory opens out onto the garden and you can enjoy a light snack or afternoon tea as you watch the sun set over the Fells. But it's not all peace and quiet at The Red Lion - you'll find a lively village pub - The Lamb Inn - serves a very fine pint of hand pulled traditional ale and guest beers, and the pub meals will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. Here you'll meet the locals, maybe join in a game of darts or pool - you'll certainly enjoy the relaxing and convivial atmosphere.

A close neighbour of William Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, The Swan, situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is an excellent base from which to explore the local area. It is an ideal location for walking, sailing, fishing, cycling, shopping, riding and golfing.There are magnificent views from a large number of its rooms and many guests return year after year. Log fires burn in the winter in inglenook fireplaces while in summer the Swan is an ideal base for an exploration of the Lakes.
