Downstairs is a very comfortable oak beamed traditional inn were the three R's really come into being, the three R's being 'Real Ale' (7 real ales 'Good Beer Guide' listed), 'Real Food' the menu is cooked with the finest local fresh produce, and 'Real Fire' what better place to have a few pints of ale or bottle of wine and just unwind. The hotel welcomes children of any age (cots available) but does request as it is a busy town centre hotel that children under the ages of 16 retire upstairs to their hotel room after 9.30pm. Up to 8.00pm the children of hotel guests are welcome to use all the hotels amities including the games room. The hotel located within walking distance of Barrow's town centre, all local businesses are very accessible from this very homely accommodation. The lake district is only a 20 min drive from Barrow-in-Furness, and in and around the Barrow area are lots of interesting places to visit which inc. Furness Abbey, Piel Island and Castle, the birthplace of George Romney, Foulney Island bird sanctuary, the award winning Dock Museum and Dalton Wild Animal Park is a mere 10 minutes drive from the hotel. The Ambrose is dedicated to its business customers, and will make available the full facilities of our own office equipment & staff to allow our customers to continue their business and make their journey as profitable and productive as possible. Approximately 1.5km from the town centre. Brow Head Hotel was built in late 1890's and offers quaint, large rooms with original woodwork in customer areas. Please advise us of your requirements before your arrival** The hotel, 'Empress Villas,' was originally owned by Vickers Armstrong, (now known as BAe Systems,) and once housed top management and other famous people such as Barnes Wallace, the man who created the 'bouncing bomb'. Barnes Wallace stayed in Barrow-in-Furness during the early war years. By popular demand, we now enforce a no smoking policy within the hotel guest rooms / main public areas. Smoking on the premesis is no longer allowed but smoking in the foyer / outside the main entrance is permitted.
