The County hotel may be one of the newest hotels in Carlisle but it is actually situated in the oldest building in the heart of the city. Open daily for breakfast and dinner, our Stable restaurant offers a choice of a la carte menus, complemented by a fine selection of wines and liqueurs. Adjacent to the restaurant, the Portland Residents Lounge Bar is the place to relax before or after your meal. As an alternative to the restaurant, you may prefer to sample our bar menu in the relaxed atmosphere of JR's American Bar & Diner.

The Hotel is fully licensed and open throughout the year offering that little extra warm, comfort, cosy seating and lavish carpeting .Its wealth of paintings, wall hangings and ornaments give that feeling of luxury associated with 5 star accommodation.Fully central heated with traditional open fires in both the residents hall/lounge and lounge bars. Early evening, bar meals are served. There is also an a la carte menu available.The elaborate oak panelled function room can comfortably seat up to 100 people, it is an ideal setting for conferences, wedding receptions, business entertaining, parties etc.The Hotel offers accommodation for those who wish to spend a few days in the peaceful atmosphere of the Eden Valley, yet ideally situated for touring the Lake District, Hadrians Wall, Carlisle The Great Border City with its Castle Museum and Cathedral only 20 mins away by car. Not forgetting Gretna Green and the Scottish Borders
