Nent Hall was built as a private house by the owners of a mine, who had the good fortune, in 1814, to strike silver as well as a rich vein of lead in their mine, which had previously been abandoned as worthless. It is situated 2 miles east of Alston in the North Penines area of outstanding beauty where the air is pure and clear, and at night the stars are brilliant. Wild life abounds - badgers, foxes, hares and occasionally deer and red squirrels can be seen. There are swifts, fields full of lapwings, pheasants, grouse and birds of prey, some of them rare. From April, when the marsh marigolds come into flower, until late summer, wild flowers are everywhere, including wild pansies and the rare Grass of Parnassus. For a truly relaxing holiday linger in the elegant dining room, take your ease in our sitting rooms (one of them non-smoking), or wander across the lawns and sit under the trees. You can stroll along the banks of the little River Nent, saunter round the ancient cobbled lanes of nearby Alston, or walk up to several vantage points, where the whole valley is spread out below you. A splendid nineteenth century hotel in the centre of the North Pennines, overlooking the South Tyne River. Situtated in picturesque Alston (the highest market town in England) at the heart of this area of outstanding natural beauty. We offer a public bar with traditional cask ales, non smoking restaurant (functions catered for), bar meals, residents lounge, meeting room, secured housing for cycles and dogs. Drying rooms, beer garden and patio and an ample adjacent car and coach park. The Cumberland Hotel offers a stopping off point on the C2C cycle route and Pennine Way or as a hospitable base to view the local interests including, shops, galleries and Inns around the cobbled front street, the South Tynedale Railway, walking or hiking, cycling and a nine hole golf course.

Recently the town became the star in televisions adaptation of Oliver Twist, when many of the local people adorned period costume to become extras. Alston and the surrounding area have a fascinating history. It became prosperous in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as a result of the lead mining industry (and to a lesser extent coal and silver mining too). All but a few of the privately owned coal mines have now gone, but traces of the past can be found, not least at the Nenthead and Kilhope mining centres, which provide an interesting view of the areas history. Today, the whole of Alston Moor is situated within a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

The Grasmere Hotel is a delightful small Victorian Country House Hotel and Restaurant set in the heart of the English Lake District and on the edge of Grasmere Village in an acre of informal gardens through which the River Rothay flows. The hotel retains the character of an English country house while providing modern standards of comfort and a warm friendly atmosphere that has encouraged many guests to return again and again. Each bedroom at the Grasmere is named after one of the many great writers and poets who have been inspired by the beauty and grandeur of the Lake DistrictÆs landscape. Just as each writer has his own particular style, so each room is individual in style, size, decor and furnishings. Some feature the unashamed luxury of a four poster bed, or pamper the guest with velvet coronets and drapes over the bed. All rooms are en suite private bathrooms, and all have central heating and direct dial telephone. Complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries and magazines are all provided as standard. Some bathrooms include a bath, separate shower and WC; others have a shower and WC only. Two of the bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, for the convenience of guests for whom stairs are a problem.

The Lounge Bar sweeps around the Reception with is new comfy settees and armchairs and plenty of reading matter to hand. The conservatory opens out onto the garden and you can enjoy a light snack or afternoon tea as you watch the sun set over the Fells. But it's not all peace and quiet at The Red Lion - you'll find a lively village pub - The Lamb Inn - serves a very fine pint of hand pulled traditional ale and guest beers, and the pub meals will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. Here you'll meet the locals, maybe join in a game of darts or pool - you'll certainly enjoy the relaxing and convivial atmosphere.

A close neighbour of William Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, The Swan, situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is an excellent base from which to explore the local area. It is an ideal location for walking, sailing, fishing, cycling, shopping, riding and golfing.There are magnificent views from a large number of its rooms and many guests return year after year. Log fires burn in the winter in inglenook fireplaces while in summer the Swan is an ideal base for an exploration of the Lakes.

Downstairs is a very comfortable oak beamed traditional inn were the three R's really come into being, the three R's being 'Real Ale' (7 real ales 'Good Beer Guide' listed), 'Real Food' the menu is cooked with the finest local fresh produce, and 'Real Fire' what better place to have a few pints of ale or bottle of wine and just unwind. The hotel welcomes children of any age (cots available) but does request as it is a busy town centre hotel that children under the ages of 16 retire upstairs to their hotel room after 9.30pm. Up to 8.00pm the children of hotel guests are welcome to use all the hotels amities including the games room. The hotel located within walking distance of Barrow's town centre, all local businesses are very accessible from this very homely accommodation. The lake district is only a 20 min drive from Barrow-in-Furness, and in and around the Barrow area are lots of interesting places to visit which inc. Whether you visit us for a mountaineering course, a teambuilding event, a wedding or just for a couple of days relaxation, Gate House and its staff create the atmosphere which make them all special occasion. Gate House is famous for its dining room with wonderful ornate ceilings. Next door are the billiard room with Minstrel's gallery and bar, also the library with log fires and views across the fells. A haven of peace and tranquillity can be enjoyed in any of the numerous comfortable lounges. Outside the private grounds provide walkways to the Japanese Garden with its cascading pools and stunning azaleas and rhododendrons. The circular walk of the tarn gives wonderful views of Gate House itself. Friendly and efficient service throughout the hotel. When you have no restrictions on where to put a building you tend to put it in the best place, so when they were rebuilding the Queens Hotel in 1845, that's what they did. Situated in the geographical centre of Cumbria, surrounded by the 'Lake District National Park' and close to all the conveniences of the town, it is small wonder that the Queens Hotel has always flourished. The lounge and breakfast room is Non Smoking at all times. Situation and good food by themselves do not create the perfect holiday. Neither do comfortable well-appointed rooms, which of course we have. It is the small things like a friendly smile, and staff remembering you from last time, that we at the Queens think makes the big difference.

We are located within the Lake District national park, 1 mile from the village of Haverthwaite, in between south Lakeland and the lake district peninsulas. Situated in open countryside, just set off the side of the A590, it is the ideal base to explore the lakes. Popular destinations such as Bowness, Windermere, Coniston, and Hawkshead are only a short drive away, as well as the peaceful tranquility of Wasdale and Kentmere. In the opposite direction is the Victorian seaside town of Grange-over-Sands, and the picturesque village of Cartmel. Wheyrigg is a family run hotel bar and restaurant set in a rural location. Originally an old farmhouse, the hotel has been converted to provide comfortable accommodation. There is ample car parking and there are two separate function rooms providing seating for fifty and one hundred people so the Wheyrigg is an ideal venue for conferences, weddings or other family celebrations. All standard rooms have same facilities i.e. double bed, tea/coffee machine, heating, colour T.V.,towelling robe,wash hand basin, hair dryer. The shower room is shared with one other room only. These rooms are also available for single occupancy. There is a minimum 3 night stay at Bank Holidays. All of our en-suite rooms have a comfortable bed, Tea/Coffee machine, heating, colour T.V., armchairs, hair dryer & private shower room with W.C. There are a wide variety of shops and restaurants in the area, as well as a cinema, all within easy strolling distance of the house. Lake Windermere is only a ten minute walk away where you will find an abundance of water sports for the energetic or if you prefer to take things easier, a cruise on one of the lake steamers will enable you to take in the wonderful scenery of the area.

We are ideally situated. Just a short walk down Longtail Hill you will find the lake and the marina where there are lovely views and a bistro bar. There are also several excellent restaurants within five minutes walk from the Lodge. A few minutes more will take you to Bowness Bay where you can take a cruise or hire a selection of small boats. In Bowness village there are many restaurants, shops, public houses, a cinema, a theatre and other attractions. An all weather leisure environment, Parklands Country Club has something for everyone. Originally called the 'Village Inn', The Queens is renown the world over for offering hospitality to travellers from early Victorian times. Our traditional family run pub renamed The Queens in recognition of Queen Victorias jubilee in 1887. The accommodation is adjacent at the 'Queens Cottage' with 5 en-suite rooms with every comfort (please note that the rooms are non smoking).
