Clonyard is a small, friendly, family run hotel. It caters both for visitors to the area and the many local guests who call in for meals and drinks. Those with business in the nearby towns will find Clonyard a relaxing retreat at the end of the day. Only 20 minutes from Dumfries. The accommodation offers a choice of traditional, large, well-furnished rooms on the first floor of the main house, or ' The Garden Wing'. These are modern comfortable ground floor rooms, each with its own small patio, to catch the sun and overlooking a quiet area of the garden. One is specially fitted for those of limited mobility.

The hotel is set in 45 acres of woodlands stretching to the River Nith with private salmon and trout fishing. 21 en-suite bedrooms with colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, telephone. Leisure facilities include a 9 hole putting green and panelled snooker room. After a day out on the fairways, Friars Carse is the perfect place to sit back and relax and analyse your game. The hotel has retained an historic feel helped by the Blacksmith's Courtyard where even now hundreds still flock to be married. All through the summer months you can expect to see horse-drawn carriages and champagne corks popping as bridal parties stroll throught the exquisitely kept gardens. Less than a mile is the English Border. The Lake District is a pleasant day trip where excursions by cruise boat and steam train can be arranged by the hotel. The Scottish Borders' country towns of Jedburgh and Melrose are also close by, with Edinburgh, under an hour by train, making it a surprisingly convenient sightseeing and shopping trip.

Gordon House Hotel is a fine Georgian Building set in the peaceful artists Town of Kirkcudbright. Situated in the historic high street of the town, it is in walking distance to all amenities (working harbour, museum, galleries, shops, marina). The Kings Arms Hotel is one of the oldest establishments in Lockerbie, dating from the 17th Century. Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed here in 1745 & Sir Walter Scott in 1813. The Hotel has catered for weary travellers since the times when horse drawn coaches would pass through the wide passageway to the stable beyond ( the undercover parking area today). The original beamed buildings and tack room are now the comfortable Lounge bar and Buccaneer Restaurant where today's guests can enjoy tasty Bar meals beside blazing log fires or choose from our Table dhote or A La Carte menus.

Surrounded by beautiful scenery in a climate warmed by the Gulf Stream the hotel provides easy access to many pursuits. Logan gardens, Threave Gardens and castle Kennedy Gardens are all easily reached. There are many interesting and challenging golf courses to visit whether by the sea or surrounded by spectacular backdrops of hills and forests, from the local course at Newton Stewart to the links courses at St Medans, Monreith, and Dunskey, Portpatrick. Reduced fees are available for residents on several nearby courses. Fishing is a popular pastime - whether river or loch - for salmon or trout, course fishing or sea angling. The hotel can provide further information and fishing can be arranged. There are excellent walks from a variety of forest trails, scenic routes or even the Southern Upland Way.
