Hawthorne House was built approx 1840 and is situated within the Conservation area of South Queensferry; totally refurbished in 1997 the house has been tastefully decorated.

Dunstane House was built in 1852 to the design of the famous architect William Playfair, who also designed the nearby Donaldsons' College for the Deaf. The bandstand in Princes Street gardens takes its name from the family.
