Built in 1820, the original coaching house was known as the 'New' or 'Low Grey Bull', eventually to become 'The Royal Hotel' in around 1870. Anthony and Jane Pelly took over in April 1998 with a vision to restore The Royal Hotel to its former glory. After extensive refurbishment and modernisation, The Royal Hotel is now fully prepared to welcome visitors from this new century. All the bedrooms are on the 3rd floor.

Modern comfort and traditional style combine beautifully in all bedrooms at Linden Hall. Individually designed and furnished, each has a private bathroom and all modern facilities. It was the site of four 18th century Burgage Houses. The magnificent stairway was bought from Brandenburg House in London; the former home of Queen Caroline, along with an Italian marble floor which has since been destroyed. During the Second World War the army commandeered the house as a barracks for officers.

Originally a 19th century mansion, Longhirst is located near Morpeth, 18 miles north of Newcastle and only 2 miles from the A1. It is an ideal base for exploring the Northumbrian coastline and visiting Alnwick Castle, the setting for Hogwarts School in the magical Harry Potter films. Set in private grounds and woodland, it offers a host of leisure activities such as 18 and 9-hole golf courses and other sports facilities such as cricket, football, hockey and tennis plus a fitness room with sauna and spa pool. There is a choice of dining options ranging from the formal Boyson Restaurant to the Sports Club bar. Longhirst Hall has 77 comfortable ensuite bedrooms located in a quiet area away from the public areas and car parks. They are well equipped with satellite television and trouser press and some have lovely views over the surrounding grounds. The hotel also offers both smoking and non-smoking bedrooms.

All of our rooms are individually furnished to a high standard, incorporating en-suite bedrooms, and tea and coffee making facilities, all helping to make your stay more comfortable. For the family we have cots, high chairs and baby-listening facilities. The gardens are safe for children to play in while parents can sit on the patio and take in the atmosphere of rural Northumberland. We have a large variety of ales served in the comfort of our bar, where you can relax in front of our log fire, alternatively, look out at picturesque Northumberland from the conservatory.
