Thetford was once a cathedral town. Religious establishments were numerous and of great importance in the town at the time The Bell began its life as a thriving inn in the 15th century, which makes the hotel's name particularly apt. The sense of history is enhanced at The Bell by the fact that the hotel retains much of its original character. Though the bedrooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard, none of that original character has been compromised. The traditional is also preserved in the warm and welcoming ambience of the hotel, and the good simple English food in which the restaurant specialises. The bar serves delicious meals also, together with traditional ales. What's so special about us? There are 39 en-suite bedrooms and 7 VIP rooms with full facilities including satellite TV and DVD. Several of the rooms have period features, including a section of the original painted plaster walls. The Bell has a substantial range of meeting and conference rooms.

There were many royal visitors to the estate with the magnificent ballroom the scene for many hunt balls. In 1924 six thousand two hundred acres were sold to the Forestry Commission which subsequently became Thetford Forest Park. Now owned by the Organic Group, Lynford Hall Hotel and Business Centre allows an opportunity for everybody to share the beautiful setting, either enjoying a quiet leisurely break amongst the Lakes, Parklands and thousands of acres of forest or alternatively as an ideal setting for your Business Meeting, Corporate Event, Wedding Day or just a Special Day with your friends and family. Lynford Hall has had its fair share of famous visitors, including John F. Kennedy who frequently stayed as a guest at the hall. The hall and its surroundings may seem familiar as it has been the setting for many popular television series including: Allo Allo, Dad's Army, You Rang M'Lord? and Love on a Branch Line.

The Thomas Paine is an ideal venue for weddings, dinners and private functions for small groups or parties of up to fifty people. We offer a wide range of catering tailored to your needs. We specialise in freshly prepared food using local produce, and our varied menus include vegetarian choices. Our intimate beamed restaurant offers good food, an excellent wine list and the choice of a la carte and table d'hote menus every day. Children are especially welcome, and well catered for. We also welcome your pets but unfortunately they are not allowed in the bar or restaurant areas.

Our hotel has thirty-four spacious en-suite bedrooms, each overlooking the surrounding peaceful countryside. We have 12 premier bedrooms comfortably accommodate a family of four. Disabled guests are also more than welcome with all our facilities accessible by wheelchair. All of our rooms are fully equipped with a remote control colour television with Sky TV & Pat TV. They also have auto dial telephones, coolers, Complimentary hospitality tray and radio alarm clocks. The spacious bathrooms are all fitted with a bath and shower. There is also the convenience of parking outside your room or in one of our mini car parks.
